I have enjoyed my first few months and I have found that I am constantly learning new things, especially as I am now learning Scottish policy and legislation which differs from the English policy which I studied whilst at university.

I have also realised that although the MSc helps you to prepare for working and provides you with the background knowledge and rationale behind the planning system, it is not until you start working that you realise what planning really is.

I have dealt with a wide range of planning issues and been involved in the preparation and submission of planning applications, appraisals and the monitoring of both applications and development plans.

Within the next two years I hope to have completed my Assessment of Professional Competence (APC) and become a chartered member of the RTPI. I then hope to continue in my career and gain the necessary skills and expertise in order to progress up the career ladder.

DPP is quite a sociable firm to work for especially as a new graduate starting out. Within the Glasgow office, we regularly meet up for both organised and often spontaneous events in order to build further on the good work relationships which exist. This gives you an opportunity to mix outside the work environment.
