Charity and Community

We make working time available to all staff and partners for voluntary work to support local communities.

Our employee survey demonstrated that 90% of our staff said it was important to them to work for a firm which "considers its impact on the environment and wider community and tries to be a socially responsible employer".   We make working time available for all staff to volunteer at local community projects across the UK – see below for information on recent projects we have worked on.   Individuals across the firm also give up their own time to support many good causes, including raising money for charity through fundraising events.  DPP make donations to various charities.

We recognise the benefits of supporting pro bono activity and its role in developing teams across the business

Leeds: Fun on the farm

Several of the Leeds office staff took part in a day of hard grafting at Lineham Farm north of Leeds as part of the Corporate Responsibility volunteering day. Duties included clearing paths, fighting with nettles and dismantling a giant teapot.

Manchester Charity Day

A team of 13 from DPP spent the day giving Jubilee Nature Reserve in Oldham a “spring” clean to provide new habitats for wildlife. The group got stuck into a range of tasks throughout the site, from making bird boxes and clearing the car park, to repairing some of the worn out footpaths to make access easier for the public to use throughout the summer months.

Charity Day at Emmaus Village

The Bedford Office rolled up their sleeves and spent a day helping out at Emmaus. Former Equity Partner, Steve Arnold, is now one of the trustees of this really worthwhile charity. It’s a great community in North Bedfordshire that provides active support for formerly homeless people.  Everyone mucked in, some painting meeting rooms while others turned their muscles to work in the garden preparing land for planting. A great day was had by all (aside from aching limbs and scratches from the hawthorn!). Most importantly, the staff and companions were “amazed at the amount of work” we did, and it was great to be able to help in a practical way. The glorious weather and a bacon butty to start created smiles all round!

Cardiff The last straw for corporate responsibility

As part of DPP’s corporate responsibility commitment, the Cardiff office volunteered for a day at Groundwork in Merthyr Tydfil. The charity helps people and organisations make changes in order to create better neighbourhoods and build sustainable communities across Wales. The team helped in the construction of an eco-friendly classroom, erecting a wall constructed entirely of straw-bales. The day was well worthy of the effort and we were rewarded with an honest cup of tea and a tour of the Groundwork operation. We learnt some interesting facts about the work Groundwork do, such as providing learning opportunities to schools and transferable skills training to the long term unemployed. We all hope that our wall, although a little wonky, can stand the test of time.

London Charity Day at Emmaus

The London team followed the Bedford office and performed their charity day at the London branch of Emmaus.  The charity had a huge list of jobs ready to roll out to the team.  Some people donned white suits to paint the fence while others got stuck into the garden.  Three gardens were cleared, plants planted, fences painted, cars, vans & windows washed and kitchens cleaned.  The team then hit Greenwich for a well earned pint.  Emmaus is an extremely worthwhile charity that houses formerly homeless people from all walks of life and provides them with jobs and prospects for the future.  They were extremely grateful for our help and enthusiasm.
