South Shields' first council estate has been rebuilt in a joint venture after the last government introduced the Decent Homes programme, which required councils to bring their housing stock up to a minimum standard.  The estate was in poor condition and contained many problems but to prevent problems from returning, the partners took a tough stance.  Bob Robinson, Chairman at DPP discusses the aspects of the project in the article below:
