The Cardiff office of independent planning consultancy DPP (www.dppllp.com) together with a number of its clients took over the Wales National Velodrome for a day of competitive track racing.
Working with top UK cycling coach, John Capelin, DPP and its clients mastered the skill of riding a banked circuit on fixed wheel bikes without brakes. After a few practice laps and top tips from John, DPP staff and clients took part in competitive timed and team laps.
Gareth Hooper, an associate partner in the Cardiff office of DPP said: “This is the second year we have run this event and it is a real winner. John and his team at Sports Coaching (www.sports-coaching.com) are used to working with some of best riders in the UK, including the members of Team GB who picked up a clutch of gold medals at the 2008 Olympics, and he soon had all of us feeling like Olympians.”
This year's winner was Julian Painter from Henry Boot Developments, a property development company. He achieved an impressive lap time of just 13.78 seconds on the 250 metre flying sprint.
Gareth adds: “Julian was very impressive, leaving all of us easily behind. However, he still has some way to catch-up with Chris Hoy, who picked up his gold medal with a lap time of a staggering 10.2 seconds.
“This was a fantastic event for clients which is both unusual and sustainable. This was the second year we have held this track day and following the success of last week's session we are already oiling the wheels for next year.”
