New guidance for greener buildings in Wales
Monday 07 Jun 2010.
Author: Arfon Hughes
New guidance on the delivery of sustainable buildings through the planning system has today (7 June 2010) been announced by the Welsh Assembly Government.
Technical Advice Note 22 (TAN 22) Planning for Sustainable Buildings provides detail to support to the current policy of requiring new major development and housing schemes of over five dwellings in Wales to meet stringent sustainability and energy standards.
The new guidance is welcomed by Arfon Hughes, partner at Cardiff based planning consultants DPP. He says: “While the new policy has been in place for a year, the absence of guidance to support it has given rise to some considerable difficulties for local authorities and developers. I hope that this new guidance will make negotiating the standards easier for all.”
