case study

Eton College Boat Houses

In response to an application to list a group of predominantly 20th century boathouses at Eton College, DPP Heritage was appointed to prepare a comprehensive rebuttal statement. We assessed the relative interest of the buildings in light of the national principles of selection for listed buildings and associated guidance. We were able to illustrate the relative interest of the buildings against other more important examples in both historic and architectural terms, and describe the buildings’ evolution and significant alteration over time.

The Secretary of State and English Heritage agreed with our findings and the buildings were not added to the statutory list of buildings of special architectural or historic interest.
