mixed use
All but the smallest development schemes are increasingly seeing a mix of uses. New retail development, for example, is now often allied with residential and perhaps offices or community uses. Large areas of new housing may form an urban extension and will therefore for sustainability reasons incorporate schools, shops, business premises and good public transport links.
Mixed use schemes call for excellent masterplanning skills, an understanding of how different development uses should work together and of course project management to ensure integration between a range of landowners and developers, large teams of specialist consultants and the various private and public sector stakeholders.
